2005_U_29 Resolution to ratify 12 point peace plan for the Korean Peninsula

The Korean Peninsula represents one of the most militarized and dangerous potential points for conflict on planet Earth. This is a sad state of affairs considering that both the racial and near cutural history is of one Korea, not two. Many families still have relatives they remember from days of old before the war and before the no-mans land and trenches. For younger Koreans, all they have known is danger and threat of conflict.
The Korean Peninsula also represents one of the most complex and difficult diplomatic and military conflicts to resolve. In the first instance North Korea has chosen for many decades to exist in an isolated state from the rest of the world community supported only by its mentor and guardian China.
It is well known that China has used North Korea as a bargaining chip with the West ever since the ceasefire agreement of the Korean War. While Chinese soldiers are no longer facing American, British and Australian soldiers across the trenches in war, successive Chinese leaderships have continued to conduct a doulble game of support in principle to the Wests needs with little effect and continued financial support to North Korea.
It is now time for such diplomatic strategies to cease and for North Korea to be engaged in full diplomatic dialogue as a positive first step towards the entry of the state into the world community and the first steps towards closer ties between the two Koreas.
This resolution aims to help start the peace negotiations by outlining all the steps towards an ultimate unified and harmonious Korea.
  1. Recognition by North Korea that they will receive automatic membership to the United Nations under the revised UN Charter. However, this may also be made under the existing Charter if they so agree to the following steps.
  2.
